In the early 1970s, a number of US aerospace companies that included Lockheed and Northrop Grumman were experimenting with different aircraft designs that would elude radar and surface-to-air missiles. The development and production of what came to be known as 'stealth' aircraft was highly classified by the Pentagon and designated a 'black' program, to be carried out in the utmost secrecy. The stealth program was at the very cutting edge of defense technology.
The end result was aircraft designs that were up to 1,000 times less detectable by radar than any existing aircraft, and that would render most defense radar systems in the world obsolete. Featuring Stealth facts and figures, a list of stealth squadrons and US locations where you can see Stealth aircraft, including the F-117, B-2 and the F-22 Raptor.
The book is illustrated in full color with photographs from Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman archives, as well as private collections.
