In the second volume of the three-part 'Airfields and Landing Grounds of Wales' series, Ivor Jones documents the West Wales region using a variety of archive photographs, overheads and maps. This area could be described as Coatal Command country, for that was the main contributions of the area to the history of the Welsh wartime activity. This volume plots the history of the airfields involved in operations such as anti-aircraft artillery schooling and the training of aircrews at Templeton and Haverfordwest, who would then go on to join the operational crews manning four-engine aircraft that were to not only serve stations like St Davids or Pembroke Dock but also protect the convoys in the Bristol and St George's Channels. These airfields can still be traced today and evoke a sense of history within their rugged - and often beautiful - settings. Ivor Jones is the author of 'Cardiff Airfield' and 'The Airfields and Landing Grounds of Wales; South.' He lives in Cardiff.
